definition: A kilometer is a unit of length in a system of measuring things that is called the "metric system." A kilometer is equal to one thousand "meters." A meter is the basic unit of length in the metric system. It is equal to a little more than three feet, about the length of some baseball bats. A short way to write "kilometer" is "km."
One kilometer is a little less than the length of ten American football fields.Cars in America usually show the speed you are traveling in miles per hour, but cars in other countries usually show your speed in kilometers per hour.
