An average is a number. You get an average by adding two or more numbers together and then dividing the answer you get by the number of numbers that you added. For example, when you add three numbers together and then divide that answer by three, you get an average of all the numbers. If you add five and seven and three, you get fifteen for your answer. Then, when you divide fifteen by three, you get an average of five.
The average of four, six, and two is four. This is because four plus six plus two equals twelve, and twelve divided by three is four. |
