When animals hibernate, it means that they go into a state that is like a very deep sleep. In this state, their body uses very little energy. Many animals that hibernate do it through the winter, but some animals hibernate when it is too hot for them or when there is not enough food. Before hibernating, animals like bears find a place such as a hole or cave where they can keep warm. Certain kinds of bears, snakes, rodents, insects, and other animals hibernate.
