When something turns counterclockwise, it turns in the opposite direction that the hands of a clock turn. Starting from the top, the hands of a clock usually move toward the right and then make a circle as they make their way back to the top. If the hands move counterclockwise, they move in the opposite direction. They start moving toward the left as they make a circle back to the top of the clock.
