In America, a county is a part of a state. It often includes a number of towns and areas of countryside. Some large cities are counties all by themselves or even contain two or more counties. Like a city, a county has its own government. It has its own highways that it takes care of and things like hospitals. sheriff's office, and emergency services. A county can sometimes have laws that other counties in the same state don't have. For example, it might have a law that sets lower speed limits.
