tundra A tundra is one of the very large, flat areas of land that are found in the very cold, northern parts of the world. Trees do not grow on a tundra because the ground there is always frozen. Certain kinds of plants are able to grow there, though, just on the surface. But even when you can see plants growing in the spring and summer, the ground under the surface soil is always frozen. Tundras are home to many animals such as foxes, wolves, owls, reindeer, and polar bears. Parts of Alaska in the U.S. and parts of Canada have tundra. Tundra is also found in the very northern parts of Europe and Asia.
