erupt When a volcano erupts, it breaks open and sends out hot melted rock. [1/2 definitions]
lava Lava is very hot, melted rock that comes out of a mountain called a volcano. The lava flows down the sides of the volcano to the ground. Sometimes it flows across land and into the sea. Later, lava gets cool and becomes new land.
magma Magma is a hot liquid made of melted rocks. Magma rises from deep in the earth and then goes up through a special kind of mountain until it reaches the top. A mountain like this is called a volcano. If the magma spills out of the volcano, it is not called magma anymore. It is called lava.
volcano A volcano is a mountain made from hot, melted rock that has come up from deep inside the earth. The melted rock comes through an opening in the earth's surface with a lot of force. When this happens, we say that the volcano is erupting. Sometimes a volcano does not erupt for thousands of years, but then it becomes active again. Each time a volcano erupts, the hot liquid rock cools and makes the volcano bigger in size.
